RURAL TRANSFORMATION WILL INDUSTRIALIZE THE CONTINENT.

Introduction

Rural transformation. Africa is a totality of over 50 states, that most of them, if not all, exist as sovereign states. That means each state operates its activities as free and independent country. In the development literature, most African states are grouped as poor countries. Many of these African countries have people who are poor but their countries are rich in terms of resources. Most countries have their large populations in the rural areas which are not well developed. And so if we as a continent are to succeed in industrializing our countries then we need to transform our rural settings.

To give you  the perspective of what I am talking about let me give you a case of one village in the continent, and  it is only in our beloved African continent that one could meet with such great wonders. In a certain village there are about 270 inhabitants; comprising of men, women and children. In this village there are many basic needs that this rural dwelling lacks. The village which is near by a high way road lacks running water, primary school, market, health facilities, electricity, and some more standard facilities that you may imagine about or could expect to find in a village near by a high way road.

Running water

In this village, which formally was a home of workers of a near by national sisal plantation, there is no reliable source of water, leave alone clean and safe water. There is only a deep well that most people in the area depend on for their survival. According to narration of a villager this village used to attract workers to find their daily bread, some of them came from neighboring countries for money. The lack of reliable source of water needs to be addressed by the local and state government if these people are to lead a happy and health life.

Education Facilities

Education is a sure way of opening people’s minds to unlimited possibilities. Moreover, education has the power to change the life of any individual from a child of peasant to a life of a prince. Education is indeed so necessary to all children boys and girls. However, this village lacks a pre-primary school for its kids. Children from this village have to walk several kilometres to attend school. Attending school in long distances used to be a practice in the early years after independence 50 years ago; this challenge calls for the ward and district government to work on the matter.

Health facilities

The population of over two hundred persons is not a small number; this large multitude requires health facilities to address the needs of the sick. The health facility that serves the village is found several kilometres away from the village. It is situated near by the head quarter of the ward where several other villages are served by the same. It is indeed difficulty to have a dispensary in each village but there could a medical center in each village where first aid and basic treatments for patients could be offered.

Market place

The village dwellers involve themselves with mainly two economic activities namely agriculture and fishing. The village is situated near by the Indian ocean and thus encouraging fishing activities. The fishing activity is mainly done by youth even though you also find some elderly persons who pass their knowledge to the youth through practice. Most adults invest their time and energy in agriculture; they cultivate all sorts of crops from cash crops to food crops. Thus being a village of farmers and fishermen there is need of a market place where the people can be able to sell and buy goods depending on their needs.

Electricity

Electricity is a source of energy that life in modern society can not be conceived without. The village does not have electricity which makes its inhabitants lead a backward type of life as they lack this important source of energy. There are only some few individuals who have opted for solar energy as their source of energy and light. As on the question of other requirements, there is need of giving providing the population with electricity for it will stimulate change and thus improve their socio-economic status.
Let us revolutionize the rural for inclusive development!

There are other requirements for developing a rural community; however, the few mentioned required could suffice the course of rural transformation and thus lead to industrialization.
